Kevin, Attended Columbia College in Hollywood, California, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in Motion Pictures.
He has studied under the tutelage of some of the best in the business, Such as the great T.V. Producer, Aaron Spelling. Writer Danilo Bach (Beverly Hills Cop).
At the age of 20, he produced his first dramatic feature “The Final Incident” that ran for two weeks at the Laemmle Santa Monica Theatre. Film critic Emanuel Levy from The Village Voice called it “Emotionally Gripping,” “Truly Frightening.”
Kevin is an Award Winning filmmaker who has extensive experience in the movie industry both as a producer, director, and editor. Kevin’s 2nd credits as a producer was “The Ultimate Game,” a Martial Arts action adventure, produced for the video market that sold worldwide.
Kevin also produced and directed documentary films on martial arts called “Empty Hand” about Four competitors who train to fight against their toughest rivals as they struggle to become the next National Karate Kid Champion, which premiered at the Academy Awards accredited film festival DOC NYC. Available on Amazon Prime and “The Real Miyagi,” Winner of 7 international film awards, Starring Steven Seagal, Dolph Lundgren, Micheal Jai White that depicts the life of the greatest karate master of our generation. His latest feature documentary "Make America Laugh Again" opened theatrically in N.Y and L.A. with favorable reviews also winning the Audience award at the prestigious CINEQUEST. "Make America Laugh Again" qualified for the 91st Academy Awards in 2019.
He is currently directing a feature on the Oscar Nominated actor Pat Morita
Kevin has also dedicated his life to the art of karate and hold a black belt in three deferent styles.

Kevin is currently The Festival director for the prestigious Irvine International Film Festival. Last year alone, 11 of the festival’s Official Selections were shortlisted for Academy Awards, with nine Oscar nominations between them. Seven-time Emmy winning actor Ed Asner (Up, The Mary Tyler Moore Show), Academy Award-winning director John G. Avildsen (Rocky), Oscar-Nominated Director Mark Rydell (On Golden Pond). Oscar-Winning Actor Martin Landau ( Ed Wood) all of whom received Lifetime Achievement Awards at IIFF.

Oscar Alvarez entered the film industry in 2004 when he had earned the opportunity to work with Oscar® nominated Writer/Director, David O. Russell (​American Hustle, Silver Linings Playbook, The Fighter​) on his Iraqi War documentary, ​Soldiers Pay, as Production Manager. In his role, Alvarez oversaw day-to- day operations of Russell’s production company, Kanzeon.

He remained with Kanzeon until late 2008 when he departed to produce his first independent short film by Writer/Director Peter Chen, ​Child Reduction Act​.

In 2011, Alvarez partnered with filmmaker Kevin Derek to produce the award-winning feature documentary film, Empty Hand: The Real Karate Kids, cited in Black Belt Magazine as “A MUST SEE...the first real Karate movie in years.” In the following year, Alvarez worked alongside Production Designer/Producer Todd Jeffery (“Brockmire”) and Writer/Director Dustin Thomas Cartmill to produce cerebral comedy short ​The Wolf​, starring Zach Cregger (“About a Boy”) and Caitriona Balfe (“Outlander”).

Alvarez reunited with Kevin Derek in 2013 to produce his second feature documentary film, The Real Miyagi featuring Dolph Lundgren, Steven Seagal, Fumio Demura & more. In 2015 Alvarez sold ​The Real Miyagi to Netflix, securing a three-year worldwide distribution deal, playing to more than 40 countries.

Most recently, Alvarez completed his and Derek’s latest feature documentary, More Than Miyagi: The Pat Morita Story starring Ralph Macchio, Martin Kove, Esai Morales, William Zabka, Tommy Chong, Efren Ramirez, Henry Winkler and James Hong, among others -- a “who’s who” of stars, including Morita’s Widow, Evelyn, came together to support the bio-doc about the beloved actor. It was released worldwide in February 2021 to massive critical acclaim and fan enthusiasm; it is rated 100% on both the TOMATOMETER® and audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Alvarez and Derek have also formalized their successful working relationship with the establishment of a production company called LOVE PROJECT FILMS. Alvarez splits his time between Los Angeles and Montreal, where his daughter is in production on a CW series.
